Kalbarri is located 589kms
north of Perth in the Midwest Region.
Kalbarri is one of the
fastest growing holiday resorts in WA and for obvious reasons. The warm climate
is suitable all year round for outdoor activities such as swimming, fishing and
enjoying barbeques. Fishing from the beach or from boats is first class and the
towns main activity, along with tourism is the rock lobster industry. Abundant
and beautiful flora is just another attraction near the restful resort.
The history of Kalbarri is
fascinating, though violent, as its treacherous coastline has resulted in many
shipwrecks. Australia's first white settlers arrived here in 1629 though
probably with some degree of reluctance. Commodore Pelsaert marooned two
conspirators here for their activity in the terrible 'Batavia' mutiny.
The Parish Church is St
Mark's (built 1992) and is located in Porter Street Kalbarri. The church is
built from a design by architect Iris Rossen of Perth. The design is to suit
North West conditions and is split into two internal sections separated by glass
panels that allow half to be used as a function area, or an extension of the
chapel area.
The Revd Matthew Brain
(wife Rachael. Children James & Karis) ministers to the Anglican community of Kalbarri.
