Carnarvon is located 904kms from Perth on the North West Coast of Western Australia in the Gascoyne Region.

Carnarvon aptly described as "the sun's winter home" is at the mouth of the Gascoyne River and is the commercial centre of the Gascoyne district. The abundance of fish at Carnarvon is possibly the major attraction but the irrigated soils of the river flats are well known for the production of many millions of dollars worth of luscious fruit and vegetables such as bananas, tomatoes and beans. Salt production and the pastoral industry and fishing, especially prawns are important to the economy which supports a population of approximately 8,000.

The Parish Church is St George's (built 1907) and is located in Francis Street Carnarvon. The church is built of locally made bricks with gothic design, the windows of cathedral glass. The original structure included a bell tower over the front porch which was blown off during a cyclone in 1930’s.

The congregation meets on Sunday morning at 9am at services which alternate between morning prayer and holy communion. The congregation includes a significant proportion of tourists who come from all around Australia to enjoy the moderate climate during the winter months; and young international backpackers who stay in town from a few weeks to a few months and find seasonal work in the horticultural and fishing industries while exploring Australia. There are two mid week Bible study groups that meet on Wednesday evenings and Friday mornings during normal school terms which visitors are welcome to join. We also participate in a joint monthly kid’s club with the Baptist and Uniting churches and an annual Kid’s mission coordinated by Scripture Union in the July school holidays. The minister conducts a monthly ecumenical service in the Aged Care facility in the local hospital.

The parish also has an active MU group, which conducts outreach ministries to women in the town as suitable speakers become available, the occasional mid week morning teas and weekly visiting to new mothers in the local hospital.

The ministry receives valuable support from parishes in Perth and Sydney, and from a hamburger stall run by the church at the Growers Market held from mid-May through to mid-October on Saturday mornings in the arts precinct in the centre of town, which has also given the Anglican church a recognisable presence in the community.

The Revd Brian Fyffe and his wife Annie minister to the Anglican community of Carnarvon.
