Safe Ministry Training

SMT is available through Creating Safer Communities: https://safercommunities.net.au/anglican-diocese-of-north-west-online-training/

This page will allow you to purchase the training course - either for yourself, or for a group.

For group training at a church:
1. Follow the above link and pay for the number of participants (ensure names are listed) in the group.
2. Plug the computer into a projector/ large screen and sound.
3. It will be up to you to keep accurate records at the church office of who attended, and email the list to the Diocesan office.
Note that Certificates are only generated when people complete the course individually. Most people don't actually require a
certificate so I recommend sending them an email after the training saying:
"Thank you for attending the Safe Ministry training on **/**/**. Your attendance has been recorded at the church and Diocesan office
and you will be due for a refresher on **/**/+ 3 years."

Course Information

Module 1

The training includes biblical foundations, healthy team ministry, screening, boundaries, code of conduct, duty of care, responding to concerns and self-care as church workers.

Module 1& 2 combined

The combined Module 1 and Module 2 course is for clergy, volunteer and paid church workers who work with children. Members of Parish Council are also encouraged to complete the combined course. This combined course covers content from Module 1 and develops an awareness of Child Safety, including empowering children, identifying, and responding to concerns (risk of harm), reducing the risks of child abuse, and caring for all parties.

Teen Helpers

A one-hour course is available for teen helpers (ages 12-17) who are helping in children’s ministry. It is a short 1-hour course that aims to develop awareness of Child Safety in a church context. This course must be run in-person, with an adult to facilitate. If your parish wishes to run this course please contact the Diocesan Safe Ministry Officer, Emma Thompson (ethompson@anglicandnwa.org).
