Rooted in Scripture, Grounded in Community
As a church, we are committed to the Bible, and this shapes everything about how we gather — with teaching at the heart of every service. We love coming together to encourage one another, and after the service we continue that fellowship over morning tea in the Church Hall. On the first Sunday of each month, that fellowship extends into a shared lunch together. We believe that growing together in faith means more than Sunday mornings — it means walking alongside one another in discipleship, spurring each other on in love and good deeds.
Carnarvon lies almost 500km north of Geraldton. The area's earliest Christian ministry was led by Reverend John Gribble between 1885 and 1886, when he established a mission at Yanget Pools — a mission house that continued to serve the community well into the early twentieth century. St George's Church was opened in 1907 and is recognised by the WA Heritage Council as a fine example of Federation Gothic architecture. When the Diocese of North West Australia was established in 1910, St George's held the honour of hosting the installation of its first bishop, Gerald Trower. Since then, the church has built a long history of faithful Bible teaching, continued today through weekly Bible studies and Sunday services that keep Scripture at the centre of congregational life. That same spirit of fellowship and discipleship runs through everything we do — as we study together, share meals, and seek to grow as followers of Christ, we are reminded that faith is always lived out practically, and we need to encourage one another on toward this goal.
OUR SERVICE
SUNDAYS
9:00am: At St George's, every Sunday is an open invitation to all. We gather each week around something that has been changing lives for centuries — the Bible — and we'd love for you to be part of it. Our services are warm, grounded, and built around teaching that is honest and relevant to everyday life. Join us in prayer and in song as we worship God for who He is and what he has done for us in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
Our Minister
Rector Mike Welham - Rev. Mike began at St George's having served at Geraldton Anglican Cathedral from 2021 to 2024. Earlier in his life, Mike worked as a primary school teacher before sensing a call to ministry and heading to Trinity Theological College in Perth to train. He is passionate about helping Christians understand and apply the gospel of Jesus Christ, and loves engaging with those who are yet to know Jesus for themselves.
Outside of ministry, Mike is happiest at the beach, camping, drinking good coffee, or settled into a long conversation about faith and life. He is married to Emma, who serves the local community as a school chaplain, and together they have three children — Zac, Ollie and Eliza. The whole family arrived in Carnarvon in February 2025, and they are delighted to call St George's home.
